| Pseudopodetia usually in clumps, to 1–14 cm, greenish yellow, straw-coloured, cinnamon-brown to black. Sterile pseudopodetia rigid when dry, coarsely floury, to 5 mm wide in expanded specimens, unevenly branched; perforations irregularly round to elliptic. Inner-medulla compact, filling pseudopodetium; hyphae to 10 µm wide, hyaline at tips of branches, becoming brown to black towards base. Fertile pseudopodetia much taller than sterile pseudopodetia, otherwise similar. Apothecia to 0.7 mm wide; disc flat, becoming strongly convex at maturity, dull, reddish brown to brownish black; exciple just discernible when young, disappearing; lower cortex reddish black. Ascospores 25–27 × 5 µm, slightly pointed at one end. Pycnidia c. 320 × 120 µm. Conidia 6 × 1 µm. CHEMISTRY: thallus K-, C-, KC-, P-. ±usnic, ±ursolic, ±protolichesterinic, ±nordivaricatic, divaricatic acids, unknown triterpenes. | ||
