| Basal squamules persistent or evanescent, inconspicuous, 2–4 mm long, 1–2 mm diam., irregularly lobed. Podetia growing from basal squamules, 3–5, rarely to 9 cm tall, 1–2 mm diam., simple, tapering, lower half corticate, brown to greenish grey, often with black emorient bases; apices scyphiferous; scyphi narrow with irregular margins or rarely subulate, with marginal scyphi. Apothecia uncommon, terminal or marginal on deformed scyphi, 1–4 mm diam., convex, brown. Pycnidia marginal on scyphi, 0.2 × 0.1 mm, black. CHEMISTRY: K-, KC-, P+ red. Fumarprotocetraric (major) and protocetraric (trace) acids. | ||
| Occurs in N.S.W., A.C.T. and Tas., and also on Macquarie Is.; a widely distributed southern arctic to northern temperate species; also occurs in southern Chile, Argentina, the Falkland Islands, Antarctica and New Zealand; grows on soil or dead wood. | ||
