| Basal squamules persistent, conspicuous, 2–5 mm long, 1–2 mm diam., sublinear, escyphiferous, esorediate, with irregularly crenate margins. Podetia growing from basal squamules, 1–2.5 cm tall, 0.5–2 mm diam., simple, becoming fastigiately branched near apices, with open axils, escyphiferous; cortex areolate to warted, esorediate, rarely squamulose near base, longitudinally split. Apothecia always present, terminal, 1–3 mm diam., convex, brown to dark brown. CHEMISTRY: K-, KC-, P+ red. Fumarprotocetraric (major) and protocetraric (trace) acids. | ||
