| Basal squamules persistent, small, inconspicuous, 2–4 mm long, 1–2 mm diam., irregularly lobed, esorediate, with crenate margins. Podetia growing from basal squamules, simple, scyphiferous, rough-corticate at base only, becoming ecorticate and floury-sorediate, rarely squamulose at base; scyphi tall, 1–2.5 cm tall, 1–1.5 mm diam., with entire or dentate margins or rarely with short, narrow, marginal scyphi; cups 2–5 mm diam., closed, interior ecorticate and floury-sorediate. Apothecia marginal on scyphi, convex, brown; not seen in Australian specimens. CHEMISTRY: K-, KC-, P+ red. Fumarprotocetraric (major) and protocetraric (trace) acids. | ||
| Occurs in W.A., N.S.W., A.C.T., Vic., Tas., Lord Howe Is. and Macquarie Is.; also in New Zealand, Europe, North and South America, Asia and Antarctica; grows on soil. | ||
