| Basal squamules persistent or evanescent, 2–5 mm long, 1–2 mm diam., irregularly crenate, esorediate. Podetia 20–40 mm tall, growing from basal squamules, with one or more central proliferations in the form of scyphi, dull grey green to olive green; scyphi broad, to 5 mm diam., forming up to five tiers, with squamulose margins; squamules 2–4 mm long, 0.5–1 mm diam., irregularly crenate; cortex continuous or areolate, with smooth areoles. Apothecia on margins of scyphi, 0.3–0.5 mm diam., flat, becoming convex, sessile or on short pedicels, pale brown to reddish brown. CHEMISTRY: K-, KC-, P+ red. Fumarprotocetraric (major) and stictic (major) acids with norstictic (trace), constictic (trace), cryptostictic (trace) and protocetraric (trace) acids. | ||
