| Podetia 3–6 cm tall, forming loose clusters, with predominantly trichotomous, occasionally dichotomous or tetrachotomous, anisotomic branching; branches 0.5–0.8 mm diam., with axils perforated or not; surface cobwebby, white or off-white. Apothecia not seen in Australian specimens. CHEMISTRY: K-, KC+ yellow, P- or yellow. Usnic acid (major), ±stictic (major), ±norstictic (trace), ±constictic (trace) and ±cryptostictic (trace) acids. | ||
| An alpine or subalpine species in Australia, not common in Tas. and less frequent in N.S.W. and Vic. A widespread circumpolar species in the Northern Hemisphere, also occurring in southern South America, Antarctica and New Zealand; grows on soil. | ||
