Basal squamules persistent, conspicuous, 6–10 mm long, 2–5 mm diam., with crenate or somewhat incised margins. Podetia growing from basal squamules, 0.5–1.5, rarely to 2 cm tall, 0.3–0.7 mm diam., simple or branching near tip in fertile specimens, subulate or somewhat cylindrical, escyphiferous, sometimes squamulose near base, corticate at base and becoming ecorticate and granular-sorediate to tips in sterile specimens or sorediate and rough-corticate near apices in fertile specimens. Apothecia uncommon, terminal on branches, 0.2–0.6 mm diam., convex, pale brown to brown. CHEMISTRY: K+ weak yellow or K-, KC-, P+ red. Atranorin (major) with fumarprotocetraric (major) and protocetraric (trace) acids, or rarely with psoromic (major) acid. | ||
Occurs in W.A., S.A., Qld, N.S.W., Vic. and Tas., and on Norfolk Is.; also on the North Island of New Zealand; grows on soil in semi-shaded positions. | ||
