| Basal squamules small, inconspicuous, usually evanescent, 1–3 mm long, 1–2 mm diam., irregularly lobed, esorediate, with crenate margins. Podetia growing from basal squamules or usually dying at base, 2–8 cm tall, 0.5–2.0 mm diam., simple or dichotomously branched, with open axils, tapering towards apices, terminating in short, c. 1 mm long, dichotomous branches with terminal pycnidia, corticate at base, escyphiferous; cortex smooth to subwarted and areolate, becoming ecorticate and squamulose; squamules c. 0.5 mm long, esorediate. Apothecia 0.2–0.5 mm diam., terminal, convex, brown; uncommon in Australian specimens. Pycnidia terminal on podetia, c. 0.25 mm diam., flask-shaped, dark brown. CHEMISTRY: K-, KC-, P+ red. Fumarprotocetraric (major) and protocetraric (trace) acids, rarely with atranorin (major). | ||
| Occurs in W.A., S.A, Qld, N.S.W., A.C.T., Vic. and Tas., and on Macquarie Is.; cosmopolitan; grows on soil, among moss or decaying wood fragments. | ||
