  Thallus to 6 cm wide, foliose, rounded to extended, adnate, marginal lobes ascending, broadly lobate, densely to sparsely pustulate and ridged especially older parts, matt, sometimes glossy at marginal lobes, without isidia, dark to light olive-green, almost black when dry. Lobes few, rounded, imbricate; margins entire. Apothecia to 1.5 mm wide, laminal, dense, especially on ridges and centre of thallus, sessile, with constricted base; disc flat to strongly convex, epruinose, matt or glossy, red to dark red-brown; thalline exciple thick to thin, smooth, persistent, often rolled under when strongly convex. Asci 43–65 × 13–20 µm. Ascospores 40–60 × 3–8 µm, usually 6-celled; septa sometimes indistinct. Pycnidia often numerous, to 200 µm wide. Conidia 4–5 × 1.5 µm, straight, slightly swollen towards ends.
     
  Occurs in W.A., S.A., Qld, N.S.W., A.C.T., Vic. and Tas. Widely distributed in the Southern Hemisphere, in tropical and temperate habitats. Grows on bark.
