| Thallus minutely squamulose, in irregular patches, usually 1–2 cm wide. Squamules ±rosette-forming, closely attached, shallowly convex and ±complex-imbricate centrally, flat at margins, 0.1–0.3 mm wide, matt or shining, discrete and scattered on a thinly scurfy black prothallus, apple green when wet, pale green, to olivaceous when dry; margins paler, entire to minutely lobulate. Cephalodia common, sessile, 0.5–2 mm wide, flattened or convex, plicate-radiate, raised above squamules centrally, or scattered on prothallus at margins, dark grey-blue with prominent whitish, radiating striations when wet, pale grey or bluish yellow when dry. Apothecia scattered, ±discrete, 0.1–2.5 mm wide, sessile; disc concave to flat or convex, matt, red-brown; exciple prominent, consistently paler than disc when dry, entire or crenulate, persistent, occasionally white-silky below. Hymenium I-. Ascospores simple, 10–12 × 6–9 µm, distinctly warted, hyaline. | ||
