ThThallus closely attached, rosette-forming or ±irregular, to 5cm wide, often coalescing. Lobes very numerous, small, delicate and fragile, 0.5–0.8 mm wide, irregularly branched, sometimes appearing palmate towards margins, contiguous, often imbricate centrally; lower side of cavity blackened; apices ±elevated, pale brown or red-brown. Upper surface concave or flat, pale green-grey or green with faint, white, reticulate blotches (x10 lens) best seen on marginal lobes; margins not or slightly blackened. Perforations absent, without soralia, isidiate. Isidia often numerous and sometimes obscuring older parts of thallus, rather coarse, 0.15–0.25 mm wide, 0.5–l.5 mm tall, becoming branched, terete to spathulate or flattened and then occasionally dorsiventral with pale brown underside, fragile, concolorous with thallus apices. Apothecia absent. CHEMISTRY: atranorin (cortex), stictic, constictic, norstictic (trace) and menegazziac acids and other accessory compounds; medulla K+ orange, C-, KC+ orange, P+ orange. | ||
On bark and twigs of trees and shrubs in temperate rainforest, N.S.W., Vic. and Tas.; also in Lord Howe Is. and New Zealand. | ||
