Thallus rosette-forming, closely appressed, spreading to 7 cm wide. Lobes numerous, fragile, 0.4–0.8 mm wide, to 4 mm long, irregularly branched, contiguous or somewhat imbricate, hollow; margins sinuous, notched; apices concolorous or faintly browned, not black-maculate. Cavity with lower side black and upper side white. Upper surface uneven, reticulate-maculate, whitish green. Perforations frequent, very variable, rounded-gaping to closed, slit-like, 0.3–0.6 mm wide, level with thallus surface or somewhat elevated, the inner margin cobwebby, without soredia or isidia. Apothecia rare, sessile to pedicellate; disc ±undulate-uneven, smooth, red-brown to dark brown; exciple thick, uneven, shining, becoming thin and irregularly lobate. Asci 2-spored. Ascospores 35–45 × 25–27 µm; wall 4–4.5 µm thick. Pycnidia not seen. CHEMISTRY: cortex K+ yellow (atranorin); medulla K+yellow-orange, C-, KC+ orange, P+ orange (stictic, constictic, ?lecanoric acids). | ||
