| Thallus rosette-forming, orbicular, 1–3 cm wide, on a thick, byssoid, red-brown to black prothallus projecting 1–2 mm beyond lobe apices, closely appressed to substratum. Lobes narrow, to 1.2 mm wide, discrete at margins or from margins to centre or ±confluent with no visible division between lobes, flat or subconvex; margins entire, slightly thickened, occasionally ascending, sometimes white-frosted. Upper surface, blotched (x10 lens), smooth, occasionally striate, isidiate, leaden grey when wet, pale grey-fawn to pinkish brown or buff when dry; isidia delicate, finger-like, to 0.5 mm tall and 0.1 mm wide, laminal and marginal, often forming a ±diffract-areolate crust centrally, concolorous with thallus. Apothecia occasional to frequent or absent, when present aggregated centrally, 0.5–2.5 mm wide, rounded to contorted; exciples thick, persistent, crenulate-striate, concolorous with thallus; disc flat to subconcave, occasionally with central isidiate thalline lobules, red-brown to brown-black. Ascospores 12–16 × 8–10 µm. | ||
| Occurs on bark. A tropical-subtropical rainforest species, in Australia apparently restricted to Qld; also in Christmas Is. Widespread in the tropics. | ||
