  Thallus on bark, foliose, adnate, spreading to subpulvinate, ±fenestrate, 1–4 cm wide, 250–500 µm thick. Lobes ascending to erect, contiguous to imbricate, sometimes anastomosing, oblong, 1–3 mm wide; margins thickened, ascending, ±incurved, undulate, crenate or lobulate, often pruinose. Upper surfacebluish leaden or darkened, ±tomentose; tomentum short, whitish to pale golden brown; cortex poorly developed. Lower surface ecorticate, pale yellowish brown; tomentum as on upper surface; rhizines simple to fasciculate, whitish to tan. Apothecia laminal and marginal, 1.2–3 mm wide, sessile or subpedicellate, concave to flat or becoming undulate, brown to reddish brown; thalline exciple crenate to lobulate or with anastomosing outgrowths, ±concolorous with thallus, ±pruinose. Ascospores ellipsoidal, 15–20 × 10–13 µm; episporium thin or absent. Pycnidia not seen.
     
  This interesting species has a Southern Hemisphere distribution and is recorded from southern Chile and New Zealand. In Australia, it is known from Vic. and Tas.
