| Thallus cream-coloured to pale grey or greenish grey, uneven to rugose, rimose, 0.3–0.5 mm thick, corticate, esorediate. Apothecia sessile and constricted at the base, 1.0–2.0 mm diam., not confluent; disc dark scarlet-red to cinnabar-red, epruinose; thalline margin prominent, smooth or crenulate, sometimes swollen. Ascospores fusiform, straight or slightly curved, 7–24-septate, 50–80 × 4.0–6.0 µm. Conidia curved-filiform, 12–19 × 0.6–0.8 µm. CHEMISTRY: Thallus K+ yellow, C–, KC–, Pd+ yellow; disc K+ red; containing placodiolic acid (major), atranorin (minor) and russulone (minor). |  |
