Lecanora bicincta Ram.

  Thallus rimose-areolate to verrucose, whitish grey to yellowish grey or bluish grey, epruinose and glossy, or slightly pruinose, sometimes effigurate. Soredia absent. Prothallus blackish or whitish grey. Apothecia immersed to sessile when immature, becoming sessile to slightly constricted at the base, 0.5–1.5 mm diam.; disc blackish brown, heavily bluish grey-pruinose; margin concolorous with the thallus, thin to thick, verrucose, with a well-developed bluish grey parathecial ring. Cortex indistinct, inspersed with small crystals insoluble in KOH, 15–20 µm thick. Amphithecium with small crystals soluble in KOH. Parathecium with small crystals, c. 15 µm thick. Epihymenium bluish brown, with crystals soluble in KOH, c. 10–15 µm thick. Hymenium, subhymenium and hypothecium hyaline. Paraphyses sparingly branched and thickened apically. Ascospores ellipsoidal, 9.5–13.5 × 5.5–7.5 µm. CHEMISTRY: Thallus and apothecial margin K+ yellow, C+ faint orange or yellow, Pd+ pale orange; apothecial disc C+ orange; containing atranorin (major), roccellic acid (major), sordidone (major), thiophanic acid (submajor), norstictic acid (submajor), arthothelin (minor), chloroatranorin (minor), ±connorstictic acid (minor) and eugenitol (minor).
     
  Occurs in south-eastern N.S.W and the A.C.T. A mainly bipolar species known from exposed and overhanging siliceous rocks in subalpine and alpine habitats in Eurasia, North and South America, southern Africa and New Zealand.
