| Thallus rimose to areolate, greyish white to white, smooth to rough, epruinose. Soredia absent. Prothallus blackish brown. Apothecia immersed to subimmersed, 0.7–1.5 mm diam.; disc black, epruinose; margin black, at first distinct, becoming thin or excluded. Cortex absent. Excipulum hyaline, 20–100 µm thick; outer zone green-black, without crystals. Epihymenium green to green-black, without crystals, c. 10–15 µm thick. Hymenium, subhymenium and hypothecium hyaline. Paraphyses branched and thickened apically. Ascospores ellipsoidal, 9.0–12.0 × 6.0–7.0 µm. CHEMISTRY: Thallus K+ yellow, C–, Pd+ pale orange; containing atranorin and an unidentified fatty acid. |  |

| This species occurs on siliceous rocks at subalpine elevations in south-eastern N.S.W. and the A.C.T. Also known from New Zealand. | ||
