| Thallus thin to thick, slightly bullate, dispersed-verrucose to verruculose, yellowish grey to orange-grey or whitish grey, epruinose, sometimes glossy. Soredia absent. Prothallus not visible. Apothecia immersed when immature, becoming sessile to constricted at the base, 0.6–1.1 mm diam.; disc blackish brown, epruinose; margin concolorous with the thallus, thin, entire, ±verrucose to crenulate. Cortex hyaline, ±gelatinous, inspersed with small crystals, 20–50 µm thick laterally and 25–65 µm thick basally. Amphithecium with large crystals insoluble in KOH (pulicaris-type). Parathecium hyaline, 10–15 µm thick, with numerous small crystals soluble in KOH. Epihymenium dark brown to blackish brown, greenish black in KOH, without crystals, c. 10–15 µm thick. Hymenium, subhymenium and hypothecium hyaline. Paraphyses sparingly branched, not or slightly thickened apically. Ascospores ellipsoidal, 12.5–15.0 × 6.0–8.5 µm. CHEMISTRY: Thallus and apothecial margin K+ yellow, C–, Pd+ pale orange; containing atranorin (major), gangaleoidin (major), leoidin (submajor), chloroatranorin (minor), 4-dechlorogangaleoidin (minor), norgangaleoidin (minor) and ±skyrin (minor). |  |

| An uncommon saxicolous species on exposed, nutrient-rich, siliceous rocks in north-eastern and south-eastern N.S.W. It also occurs in western Europe, North Africa, the Atlantic islands and in winter-rain areas of western North America and Chile. | ||
