Thallus rimose-areolate to verrucose-areolate, greyish white to white, epruinose. Soredia absent. Prothallus blackish brown or not visible. Apothecia immersed, 0.2–0.6 mm diam.; disc blackish brown, epruinose; margin absent. Cortex absent. Excipulum reduced to a c.10 µm thick greyish inner zone and a c. 60 µm thick hyaline outer part. Epihymenium grey green, K–, without crystals, c. 7–10 µm thick. Hymenium, subhymenium and hypothecium hyaline. Paraphyses sparingly branched and thickened apically. Ascospores ellipsoidal, 7.0–13.0 × 4.0–6.5 µm. CHEMISTRY: Thalline cortex K+ yellow, C–, Pd+ yellow; medulla K–, C–, Pd+ pale yellow; containing atranorin (major), confluentic acid (major) and chloroatranorin (minor). | ||
Occurs on exposed, siliceous rocks in Qld, N.S.W., A.C.T. and Vic. Widely distributed in subtropical and temperate regions (North America, Africa, Asia, Australasia and Oceania). | ||
