Thallus rimose to rimose-areolate, whitish grey to greenish grey, epruinose to slightly greyish-pruinose. Soredia absent. Prothallus black or not visible. Apothecia immersed to sessile, 0.5–2.5 mm diam.; disc pinkish brown, heavily pale grey- or bluish grey-pruinose; margin concolorous with the thallus, thin to thick, verrucose. Cortex indistinct, 15–20 µm thick laterally and basally, inspersed with small crystals insoluble in KOH. Amphithecium with small crystals soluble in KOH. Parathecium c. 15 µm thick, with small crystals. Epihymenium olivaceous brown, c. 10–15 µm thick, with crystals insoluble in KOH. Hymenium, subhymenium and hypothecium hyaline. Paraphyses sparingly branched and slightly thickened apically. Ascospores ellipsoidal, 8.5–14.5 × 5.5–7.5 µm. CHEMISTRY: Thallus and apothecial margin K+ yellow, C–, Pd+ pale orange; apothecial disc C+ orange; containing atranorin (major), roccellic acid (major), sordidone (major), chloroatranorin (minor) and eugenitol (minor). | ||
A saxicolous species on exposed, siliceous rocks in south-eastern N.S.W. Also in the Holarctic and New Zealand. | ||
