Thallus erect, forming small patches of richly divided flattened sterile branches, with occasional fertile ones intermingled. Fertile branches 1.5–2.4 (–2.7) cm long, 1.5–3 mm wide, ±flattened at the base, with thin subterete branchlets along the margin; supporting branches narrowly compressed to subterete, 1–2 (–2.2) mm wide. Upper surface grey, greyish green or brownish green, sometimes with short isidioid outgrowths, smooth or somewhat areolate above the apothecia. Apothecia sparse, terminal, 1 or 2 per thallus, slightly wider than the supporting branch, 1.5–2.5 (–3.1) mm wide. Mazaedia subapically exposed, not enclosed by a thalline receptacle that ruptures early. Ascospores (5.5–) 7–9.5 (–11.5) µm diam., reddish brown. Conidia oblong or slightly obovate, 3–4.5 (–6.5) × 1.5 µm. CHEMISTRY: Medulla K–, P+ red; containing sphaerophorin, protocetraric acid and ascomatic acid. | ||
Rare but widespread in subtropical and temperate rainforest in eastern Qld and northern N.S.W., occasionally in wet-sclerophyll forest; primarily an epiphyte but occasionally also on rock. Also in Papua New Guinea. | ||
