| Thallus forming minute (rarely extensive) patches of small flattened sterile branches with scattered larger fertile ones. Fertile branches usually broadly flattened, 1.5–3 (–4.5) cm long, 2–4 (–5) mm wide, simple or sometimes with occasional tapered lateral branches in the upper parts, usually with several flattened sterile branches at the base. Upper surface brownish green to brown, smooth, but often shallowly wrinkled above the apothecia. Apothecia terminal, 2–4 (–5.5) mm wide; supporting branches often somewhat constricted below the apothecia. Mazaedia subapically to ventrally exposed. Ascospores (5.5–) 6.5–8.5 (–10) µm diam., greyish brown to reddish brown. Conidia oblong, 3.5–4.5 (–5.5) × 1.5 µm. CHEMISTRY: Medulla K–, P+ red; containing sphaerophorin, protocetraric acid, ascomatic acid (minor or trace), and traces of several unknown substances. | ||
