Bunodophoron tibellii (Wedin) Wedin

  Thallus very broadly flattened, sparingly branched, forming discrete tufts of ±imbricate horizontal or weakly decumbent branches. Fertile branches 2.4–4.5 cm long, 3.3–11.6 mm wide; lateral branches short and broadly flattened. Upper surface greyish to brownish green, smooth or slightly wrinkled, strongly wrinkled to ridged above the apothecia. Apothecia common, terminal, 3.5–10 mm wide. Mazaedia covered by thalline tissue when young, later ventrally exposed through a ±round opening in the enclosing receptacle; thalline receptacle crateriform. Ascospores (12–) 15–18 (–21) µm diam., reddish brown. Conidia oblong, slightly thickened towards the ends, 3–4.5 × 1.5 µm. CHEMISTRY: Medulla K–, P+ faintly yellow; containing sphaerophorin, protocetraric acid (minor or trace), ascomatic acid and several unidentified substances.
     
  Localised and rare in cool-temperate rainforest in Tas. Also in New Zealand.
