| Thallus coriaceous, loosely adnate centrally, free at the margins, 8–20 cm wide. Lobes sublinear to linear-elongate, subdichotomously to dichotomously branched, 1–1.5 mm wide; apices ascending, subrotund; margins entire, crenulate. Upper surface greyish green to olive-brown when dry, glossy, smooth, lacking isidia, soredia and phyllidia. Photobiont green. Lower surface pale tan, almost glabrous, sparsely tomentose and rhizinate only in the older central areas; rhizines simple or squarrosely branched, brown to dark brown. Apothecia subpedicellate, 4–5 mm wide; disc concave, red-brown; thalline exciple smooth, thick; margin entire. Ascospores fusiform, 1–3-septate at maturity, 35–40 × 7–9 µm, colourless. Pycnidia common, immersed. Conidia bacilliform, c. 5 × 1 µm. CHEMISTRY: Cortex K+ yellow; medulla K–, C+ pink, KC+ pink, P–; containing gyrophoric acid (major) and lecanoric acid (trace). | ||
| Scattered in coastal and hinterland forests of northern Qld and in eastern N.S.W. This tropical and subtropical species also occurs in Madagascar, Réunion, the Philippines, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. Grows on bark and more rarely on moist rocks. | ||
