| Thallus adnate, membranaceous, up to 5 cm wide. Lobes imbricate, irregular, subirregularly branched, 2–5 mm wide; apices subrotund, crenate; margins sinuate with rounded lobules (phyllidia), 0.5–1.2 mm wide, rarely spreading laminally. Upper surface bright green when wet, dull yellow or brown when dry, ±glossy, smooth to faintly scrobiculate, lacking isidia and soredia. Photobiont green. Lower surface dull yellow to pale brown with sparse or indistinct pale brown to brown fine evenly distributed short rhizines near the margins, with a coarse dark brown tomentum in the thallus centre. Apothecia marginal and laminal, shortly pedicellate, 2–7 mm wide; disc concave then plane or undulate-distorted, dark red to red-brown; thalline exciple minutely nodular, scabrous; margin crenate-lobate. Ascospores acicular, 1-septate, 50–65 × 3–5 µm, colourless. Pycnidia and conidia not seen. CHEMISTRY: Cortex K–; medulla K–, C+ pink, KC+ deep pink, P–; containing gyrophoric acid (major) and lecanoric acid (minor/trace). | ||
