| Thallus rosette-forming to irregularly spreading, loosely to closely attached, 3–7 (–12) cm wide. Lobes rounded to irregularly laciniate, 4–25 mm long, 2–10 (–20) mm wide, discrete or contiguous to complex-imbricate; lobe margins sinuous, very irregular, coarsely crenate-lacerate, thickened below or with clustered grey-white soralia that erode below. Upper surface olive-brown to glaucous yellowish and dark greyish at margins when dry, dark grey-blue or glaucous blue-black when wet, plane, shallowly undulate to conspicuously punctate-impressed, matt or minutely cobwebby in parts, sorediate, maculate, without isidia, phyllidia or pseudocyphellae. Maculae minute, scattered, white or buff, in reticulate patterns at margins (×10 lens). Soredia coarsely granular, scattered in delimited laminal soralia or in linear coalescent marginal soralia. Medulla white. Photobiont Nostoc. Lower surface ±bullate or undulate-wrinkled, pale buff or brownish and ±glabrous at margins, red-brown to brown-black and densely tomentose centrally. Pseudocyphellae conspicuous centrally, white. Apothecia not seen in Australian material. CHEMISTRY: 7β-acetoxyhopane-22-ol, hopane-7β,22-diol (trace) and hopane-15α,22-diol. |  |

| Occurs in north-eastern Qld and south-eastern N.S.W.; a rare epiphyte of forest trees in upland habitats. Also in Norfolk Is. and in northern coastal habitats in New Zealand. | ||
