Thallus rosette-forming, loosely attached, 2–5 (–10) cm wide. Lobes complex-imbricate, 1–3 (–5) cm long, 5–10 (–12) mm wide, convex to plane, ±coalescing centrally; lobe margins crenate-dentate, sinuous at apices, becoming densely phyllidiate centrally, thickened below, without projecting pseudocyphellae. Upper surface pale greyish buff or greyish blue when dry, pale grey-blue to dark navy-blue when wet, shallowly and minutely wrinkled or pitted, patchily tomentose near margins, maculate (×10 lens), minutely scabrid-areolate (×10 lens); without isidia, pseudocyphellae or soredia. Phyllidia mainly flattened, simple, tear-shaped to coralloid, 0.1–0.4 mm tall, to 0.4 mm wide; lower surface pale yellow, without pseudocyphellae. Medulla yellow. Photobiont Nostoc. Lower surface of thallus pale yellow or buff, uniformly tomentose; tomentum thin, velvety, whitish at margins, red-brown centrally. Pseudocyphellae sparse, scattered, pulverulent, yellow. Apothecia unknown. CHEMISTRY: Pulvinic acid, pulvinic dilactone, calycin, 2α,3β-diacetoxystictane, 2α,3β-diacetoxystictane-22-ol, stictane-3β,22α-diol (trace), 2α-acetoxystictane-3β,22α-diol, 3β-acetoxystictane-2α,22α-diol, stictane-2α,3β,22α-triol, pseudocyphellarin A, isopseudo-cyphellarin A, nephroarctin, 1'-chlorophenarctin, 2'-O-methylpseudocyphellarin A, and 2'-O-methylisopseudocyphellarin A. | ||
