Thallus rosette-forming to irregularly spreading, rather loosely attached centrally, 1–5 (–10) cm wide. Lobes rounded to irregularly cochleate, crowded-imbricate, 2–6 (–10) mm diam.; lobe margins noticeably thickened below, subascendent, shallowly notched, crenate to ±pectinate, markedly pseudocyphellate; pseudocyphellae punctate to short-linear, often ±swollen. Upper surface pale greyish or bluish, suffused red-brown when dry, dark slate-blue to glaucous blue-grey when wet, very shallowly bullate in parts, mainly smooth, matt, ±glabrous at margins, lightly to moderately densely white-tomentose centrally; without isidia, soredia or phyllidia; maculae common at margins and towards centre in a yellow reticulate pattern. Pseudocyphellae scattered, solitary, yellow, projecting from tomentum. Medulla white. Photobiont Nostoc. Lower surface pale yellowish at margins, dark brown to black centrally, delicately pubescent to velvety-tomentose centrally and occasionally to margins. Pseudocyphellae conspicuous, scattered, noticeably raised, yellow. Apothecia not seen. CHEMISTRY: Tenuiorin, methyl gyrophorate, hopane-7β,22-diol (trace), hopane-6α,7β,22-triol, 7β-acetoxyhopane-6α,22-diol (trace), 6α-acetoxyhopane-7β,22-diol (trace), norstictic acid (trace), stictic acid, cryptostictic acid (trace), constictic acid, pulvinic acid, pulvinic dilactone and calycin. | ||
Known from one montane locality in north-eastern N.S.W.; grows on twigs of Lomatia arborescens in rainforest at an altitude of 1400 m. Also occurs at lower elevations in northern New Zealand. | ||
