Thallus adnate, to 4–6 cm wide. Lobes sublinear-elongate, 0.6–1.5 mm wide; margins with dense bulbate cilia; cilia strongly inflated, becoming apically branched. Upper surface dirty white to pale grey, flat, shiny, emaculate, continuous, lacking isidia. Medulla white. Lower surface black; rhizines dense, densely branched, brown to black. Apothecia common, sessile, 1–4 mm wide; thalline exciple ecoronate. Ascospores bicornute, 8–10 × 4–5 µm. Pycnidia not seen. CHEMISTRY: cortex K+ yellow; medulla K-, C+ red, KC+ red, P-; containing atranorin, chloratranorin and lecanoric acid (major). | ||
A rare species in Australia, occurring on bark on mangroves in north-eastern Qld (Hinchinbrook Is.). This species was previously only known from the type collection from Brazil. | ||
