Canoparmelia norsticticata (G.N.Stevens) Elix & Hale

  Thallus adnate, to 3–5 cm wide. Lobes crowded, imbricate, subirregular, 2–3 mm wide; apices rotund. Upper surface pale grey to grey-green, strongly ridged and rugose, sparsely maculate, sometimes pruinose, lacking isidia; soredia dense, farinose; soralia produced along ridges, large, capitate, sometimes coalescing. Medulla white. Lower surface black with pale zone at margin; rhizines moderately dense, short, simple, rarely projecting beyond margins, black. Apothecia rare, subpedicellate, 1–1.5 mm wide; disc concave, dark brown; thalline exciple sorediate. Ascospores 10–14 × 5–7 µm wide. Pycnidia not seen. CHEMISTRY: cortex K+ yellow; medulla K+ yellow then red, C-, P+ orange; containing atranorin, choloroatranorin, norstictic acid (major), stictic acid (major) and constictic acid (minor).
     
  An endemic species found in mangroves in W.A., in coastal woodland in Qld and, more rarely, N.S.W. Grows on bark.
