Thallus adnate, to 2–4 cm wide. Lobes imbricate, 2–5 mm wide; laciniae narrower, overlying the marginal lobes; margins crenulate; apices irregularly rotund or subrotund. Upper surface green to yellow-green, flat, matt, smooth at marginal lobes, becoming slightly rugulose towards thallus centre, lacking dactyls and isidia, pustulate-sorediose; soralia sometimes developing from cracks or pustules which burst to form granular soredia. Medulla white. Lower surface with sparse, simple, ±fasciculate rhizines. Apothecia and pycnidia not seen. CHEMISTRY: cortex K-, UV-; medulla K-, C-, KC-, P+ red; containing usnic acid, protocetraric acid (major), ±atranorin, caperatic acid, virensic acid (±trace), with or without unidentified compound (trace). | ||
Scattered, endemic, occurs on bark Qld and in temperate forest of northern N.S.W. | ||
