Thallus adnate, to 3–4 cm wide. Lobes often crowded and imbricate, flat, 1–5 mm wide; margins crenulate; apices rotund. Upper surface dark yellow-green to deep olive green, broadly undulating, rugose centrally, mostly dull, emaculate, lacking soredia, dactyls and isidia; lobe apices shiny, with black margins. Medulla yellow throughout. Lower surface with sparse rhizines; rhizines short, simple or tufted. Apothecia sessile, 2–4 mm wide; disc concave, then undulate-distorted, cinnamon-brown to dark brown; thalline exciple strongly involute at first, smooth. Ascospores 14–16 × 6–8 µm. Pycnidia common. Conidia weakly bifusiform, 6–7 × 1 µm. CHEMISTRY: cortex K-, UV-; medulla K-, C-, KC-, P-; containing usnic acid, secalonic acid A (major), secalonic acid C (minor), with or without unidentified secalonic acid (trace) and with or without unidentified fatty acid (trace). | ||
