Thallus tightly adnate, to 3–5 cm wide. Lobes hardly imbricate, strongly dissected, 1–5 mm wide; margins shallowly incised; apices rotund. Upper surface yellow-green, smooth, becoming cracked and rugulose towards centre, dull to slightly shiny, without dactyls and isidia; capitate soralia with granular soredia developing from rugae near margins; soralia coalesce, become ridged, then form a mass of pulvinate, granular soralia towards thallus centre. Medulla white. Lower surface with moderately dense, simple rhizines. Apothecia and pycnidia not seen. CHEMISTRY: cortex K-, UV-; medulla K- (or K+ dingy yellow), C-, KC-, P+ red; containing usnic acid, physodalic acid (major), conphysodalic acid (minor), protocetraric acid (trace), ±atranorin and ±caperatic acid. | ||
Scattered, endemic, occurs on dead wood and bark of trees in eastern and southern Australia (W.A., S.A., Qld, N.S.W., A.C.T., Vic. and Tas.). | ||
