Thallus adnate, to 3–6 cm wide. Lobes contiguous, sublinear, subdichotomously branched, 1–2 mm wide; margins entire; apices incised. Upper surface whitish grey, flat, shiny, continuous, emaculate, without soredia, pustules and isidia. Medulla mostly white; lower medulla orange-brown. Lower surface moderately to densely rhizinate; rhizines densely dichotomously branched. Apothecia common, sessile, 2–4 mm wide; thalline exciple smooth to undulate. Ascospores 10–13 × 6–8 µm. Pycnidia scattered. Conidia 5–8 × 1 µm. CHEMISTRY: cortex K+ yellow, UV-; medulla K-, C-, P+ orange-red; lower medulla K+ violet; containing atranorin, chloroatranorin, protocetraric acid (major), skyrin (in lower medulla) and unidentified pigment (in lower medulla). | ||
Scattered, occurs in coastal and hinterland areas of eastern Australia (Qld and N.S.W.). Also in New Zealand. Grows on bark and rock. | ||
