| Thallus loosely adnate to adnate, to 4–8 cm wide. Lobes imbricate, sublinear-elongate, subirregularly branched, 3–5 mm wide; margins occasionally crenate; cilia sparse, simple, to 1 mm long. Upper surface whitish to greenish grey, shiny, emaculate, smooth, without pustules and isidia; soralia terminal or subterminal, ±capitate; soredia granular. Medulla white. Lower surface black; rhizines dense, simple, black. Apothecia and pycnidia not seen. CHEMISTRY: cortex K+ yellow; medulla K+ yellow then red, C-, KC-, P+ orange-red; containing atranorin, chloroatranorin, salazinic acid (major) and consalazinic acid (minor). | ||
