| Thallus adnate to tightly adnate, to 2.5–4 cm wide. Lobes separate to subimbricate, linear-elongate, dichotomously to subirregularly branched, 0.5–1 mm wide; margins entire. Upper surface whitish grey, flat to slightly convex, shiny, continuous, emaculate, without isidia; pustules subapical, erumpent, eroding and becoming coarsely granular-sorediate and exposing black lower cortex. Medulla white. Lower surface moderately to densely rhizinate; rhizines shiny, dichotomously branched. Apothecia and pycnidia not seen. CHEMISTRY: cortex K+ yellow, UV-; medulla K- or K+ pale reddish, C-, KC+ rose, P-; containing atranorin, chloroatranorin, colensoic acid (major), 4-O-methylphysodic acid (major), lividic acid (trace), physodic acid (minor) and oxyphysodic acid (trace). | ||
| Known from areas with outcropping Hawkesbury sandstone in central N.S.W. Also in the Neotropics, South africa and New Zealand. Grows on bark. | ||
