Thallus adnate to tightly adnate, to 1.5–3 cm wide. Lobes discrete to subimbricate, short and rounded or somewhat lobulate on margins, 0.5–2 mm wide. Upper surface olive-green to olive-brown, shiny at lobe apices, with sparse and inconspicuous pseudocyphellae on some lobes, smooth becoming weakly rugulose towards thallus centre, without soredia; with numerous, tiny (c. 20–30 µm long) hyaline, cortical hairs, especially on lobe apices and isidia; isidia cylindrical, simple or often branched, thin, delicate. Lower surface dark brown or black, paler on lobe apices; rhizines sparse to moderately dense, simple, concolorous. Apothecia rare, sessile, 0.5–1 mm wide, sterile (only immature apothecia seen). Pycnidia not seen. CHEMISTRY: cortex K-, HNO3-: medulla K+ faint yellow or faint violet, C+ rose, KC+ rose-red, P-; containing gyrophoric acid and 5-O-methylhiascic acid. | ||
Scattered, endemic, occurs in W.A., N.S.W., A.C.T., Vic. and Tas. Grows on bark. | ||
