Thallus loosely adnate to adnate, to 8–20 cm wide. Lobes imbricate, subirregular, apically rotund, short, 2–5 mm wide. Upper surface pale grey, shiny, flat, white-reticulate, soon becoming conspicuously cracked and pseudocyphellate, without soredia; pseudocyphellae effigurate, somewhat raised, dense, fusing into a reticulate network over the whole surface; isidia developing from pseudocyphellae, coarse, coralloid, neither bursting apically nor becoming granular and sorediose, epicorticate, 0.2–0.3 mm wide, to 2 mm tall. Lower surface moderately densely rhizinate; rhizines simple or squarrosely branched, 1–2 mm long. Apothecia not seen. Pycnidia scattered. Conidia bacilliform to weakly bifusiform, 5–7 × 1 µm. CHEMISTRY: cortex K+ yellow; medulla K+ yellow then dark red, C-, P+ red-orange; containing atranorin, chloroatranorin, salazinic acid (major), consalazinic acid (minor) and norstictic acid (trace). | ||
A rare endemic species known only from the type locality. Grows on rock. | ||
