Thallus adnate to tightly adnate, leathery, thin, to 5–8 cm wide. Lobes becoming imbricate, sublinear, rather short, 2–5 mm wide. Upper surface whitish to pale greenish grey, shiny, white-maculate, smooth, without soredia and isidia; pseudocyphellae effigurate, becoming fissured, on lamina of central and marginal lobes, dense, fusing on marginal lobes, larger and mainly separate centrally. Lower surface sparsely to moderately rhizinate; rhizines rather coarse, simple, becoming weakly squarrosely branched, 0.5–1 mm long. Apothecia common, subpedicellate, 5–10 mm wide; disc concave, becoming flat and radially split with rim folding upward with age; thalline exciple pseudocyphellate. Ascospores 11–12 × 6–9 µm. Pycnidia common. Conidia weakly bifusiform, 6–7 × 1 µm. CHEMISTRY: cortex K+ yellow; medulla K+ yellow then red, C-, P+ red-orange; containing atranorin, chloroatranorin, salazinic acid (major) and consalazinic acid (minor). | ||
A scattered species, endemic in north-eastern Australia (Qld and northern N.S.W.); also in Lord Howe Is.; occurring on canopy branches of rainforest trees in montane areas. | ||
