| Thallus loosely adnate to adnate, membranaceous to coriaceous, to 5–13 cm wide. Lobes subirregular, 5–10 mm wide, without laciniae; margins entire; cilia apical, 2–5 mm long. Upper surface pale grey, emaculate, smooth, without soredia; isidia cylindrical, becoming coralloid branched, fragile, eciliate. Medulla white. Lower surface black, erhizinate in a broad zone along margins; rhizines sparse, simple, short, brown. Apothecia not seen. Pycnidia uncommon. Conidia not seen. CHEMISTRY: cortex K+ yellow; medulla K-, C-, KC-, P+ orange-red; containing atranorin, chloroatranorin, fumarprotocetraric acid, succinprotocetraric acid and protolichesterinic acid. | ||
