Thallus loosely adnate, relatively rigid, to 3–5 cm wide. Lobes separate, not imbricate, markedly convolute, linear-elongate, subdichotomously branched, 3–5 mm wide when convolute; cilia apical, simple, minute, 0.5–1 mm long. Upper surface pale grey, convex, shiny, emaculate, smooth, lacking soredia and isidia, occasionally developing rotund marginal lobules; lobules 0.5–2 mm wide. Medulla white. Lower surface black, with a broad, chestnut-brown, erhizinate marginal zone; rhizines sparse to moderately dense, grouped subapically, simple, short, slender, 0.5–1 mm long. Apothecia and pycnidia not seen. CHEMISTRY:cortex K+ yellow; medulla K+ yellow, C-, P+ orange; containing atranorin, chloroatranorin, stictic acid (major), constictic acid (major), cryptostictic acid (trace), norstictic acid (trace) and menegazziaic acid (trace). | ||
A rare endemic species known only from the type locality. Grows on bark. | ||
