| Thallus loosely adnate, coriaceous, to 8–12 cm wide. Lobes irregular, 5–12 mm wide, lacking lobules; margins eciliate; apices rotund. Upper surface pale grey or darkening with age, emaculate, smooth, lacking soredia and isidia. Medulla white. Lower surface black; marginal rim broad, erhizinate, brown; rhizines sparse, simple, black. Apothecia common, pedicellate, 5–10 mm wide; disc imperforate; thalline exciple eciliate. Ascospores 10–17 × 5–7 µm. Pycnidia common. Conidia bacilliform (immature ?), 6–7 × 1 µm. CHEMISTRY: ccortex K+ yellow; medulla K-, C-, KC-, P+ orange-red; containing atranorin, chloroatranorin, succinprotocetraric acid (major), fumarprotocetraric acid (major), protocetraric acid (trace) and an unidentified fatty acid. | ||
