| Thallus loosely adnate, membranaceous, to 10–20 cm wide. Lobes flat, rounded, 10–18 mm wide; central lobes ±laciniate; margins entire or weakly crenate; cilia prominent, short, less than 1 mm long. Upper surface pale grey, emaculate, smooth, slightly rugose in older parts, lacking soredia and isidia. Medulla white. Lower surface black, with a broad, dark brown marginal zone; rhizines in central parts of thallus, sparse, simple, short. Apothecia common, shortly pedicellate, laminal, 3–10 mm wide; disc imperforate, concave; thalline exciple faintly maculate. Ascospores 18–22 × 7–10 µm. Pycnidia rare. Conidia sublageniform, 6–8 × 1 µm. CHEMISTRY: cortex K+ yellow; medulla K+ dirty brown, C-, P+ brick-red; containing atranorin, chloroatranorin, protocetraric acid and with or without unidentified fatty acids. | ||
| Scattered on bark of trees in coastal and hinterland forests of north Qld; also known from East Africa, North, Central and South America, Mauritius, Taiwan, Indonesia and the Philippines. | ||
