  Thallus loosely adnate to adnate, to 4–20 cm wide. Lobes somewhat crowded, dissected, 5–15 mm wide; margins crenate or regularly incised, sinuous, shiny. Upper surface pale greenish white, greenish grey or pale bluish grey, often brownish at lobe margins, smooth, shiny, becoming rugose, ±faveolate at or near margins, rugose-ridged centrally, without soredia, isidiate-lobulate; pseudocyphellae small, punctiform, mainly marginal, not becoming sorediate; isidia flattened, lobate-squamiform, rarely terete and simple, becoming strongly dorsiventral, marginal in young lobes, spreading densely over surface of older lobes. Lower surface pale buff or tan with a smooth, pale, erhizinate marginal zone; rhizines usually dense, simple, pale tan or buff. Apothecia occasional, simple, usually pedicellate, 4–10 mm wide; disc imperforate, flat to deeply concave; thalline exciple pseudocyphellate and isidiate. Ascospores subglobose to broadly ellipsoidal, 10–13 × 6–9 µm. Pycnidia common. Conidia filiform, 10–12 × 1 µm. CHEMISTRY: cortex K+ yellow; medulla K-, C+ red, KC+ red, P-; containing lecanoric acid (major), ±atranorin and ±chloroatranorin.
     
  Common on decorticated wood (fenceposts etc.), tree bark and rock in southern and eastern Australia (W.A., Qld, N.S.W. and Tas.); also occurs in New Zealand.
