Thallus foliose, adnate, to 8 cm wide. Lobes not imbricate, contiguous and sublinear to separate and linear-elongate, dichotomously or subdichotomously branched, 0.7–2 mm wide, elobulate; cilia dense, conspicuous, strongly inflated, to 2 mm long, often developing agglutinated hyphae towards cilia apices. Upper surface pale yellow-green to yellow-brown, flat to convex, shiny, smooth, emaculate or weakly maculate; isidia sparse, cylindrical, simple, short (to 0.5 mm high). Lower surface pale tan; rhizines dimorphous; coarse long rhizines scattered, pale brown; fine short rhizines developing from coarse rhizines and lower surface, dense, richly branched, agglutinated, pale tan. Apothecia rare, 1–2 mm wide; disc shallowly concave, cinnamon-brown to dark brown; thalline exciple coronate, smooth, erhizinate. Ascospores bicornute, 10–12 × 3 µm. Pycnidia not seen. CHEMISTRY: cortex K-, UV-; medulla K- or K+ pale brown, C-, KC-, P+ brick red; containing usnic acid and protocetraric acid. | ||
Scattered on the bark of mangroves, coastal and hinterland trees in north Qld; also occurs in West Malaysia, Sarawak, and the Philippines. | ||
