| Thallus foliose, adnate, to 5–10 cm wide. Lobes contiguous but sparingly imbricate, sublinear-elongate, subdichotomously branched, 1–6 mm wide, without lobules; cilia dense, conspicuous, becoming globose, 0.1–0.4 mm long. Upper surface yellow-green, flat to convex, shiny at lobe apices, becoming dull and rugulose in thallus centre, smooth, emaculate or faintly maculate, without isidia. Lower surface jet black; rhizines dense, shiny, irregularly and richly branched, black. Apothecia common, 1–2.5 mm wide; disc concave, cinnamon-brown to dark brown; thalline exciple ecoronate, retrorsely rhizinate. Ascospores ellipsoidal, 5–9 × 3.5–5.5 µm. Pycnidia immersed. Conidia bacilliform, 6–8 × 1 µm. CHEMISTRY: cortex K-, UV-; medulla K-, C-, KC-, P-; containing usnic acid, protolichesterinic acid and ±two accessory unidentified compounds. | ||
| Rare in Australia; on bark of canopy branches of rainforest trees in north Qld. Widespread in the Philippines, Guam, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, and the Solomon Is. | ||
