| Thallus foliose, tightly adnate, to 2–6 cm wide. Lobes variable, contiguous and sublinear to separate and sublinear-elongate, not imbricate, dichotomously branched, rather short, 0.3–1.5 mm wide, occasionally developing marginal lobules; cilia conspicuous, strongly inflated to globose, short, 0.05–0.1 mm long, sometimes apically branched. Upper surface yellow-green, flat, shiny, smooth, emaculate or faintly maculate, without isidia. Lower surface jet black; rhizines dense, simple or sparingly branched, black. Apothecia common, to 1 mm wide; disc ±flat, pale brown to brown; thalline exciple coronate, retrorsely rhizinate. Ascospores broadly ellipsoidal, 5–7 × 4–5 µm. Pycnidia not seen. CHEMISTRY: cortex K-, UV-; medulla K-, C-, KC-, P-; containing usnic acid and unidentified fatty acids. | ||
| In Australia, reported from a single collection from Thursday Is., Qld. However the specimen in US is a mixed collection comprising mainly R. samoensis, with only fragments of a second species, possibly R. relicinula. Because of the quality of this specimen, the above description is from Malaysian collections. A widespread species in the Philippines, West Malaysia and Indonesia (Java). Grows on bark. | ||
