| Thallus foliose, coriaceous, adnate, to 6–10 cm wide. Lobes contiguous centrally, separate at periphery, imbricate, sublinear-elongate, dichotomously to subdichotomously branched, 1–2 mm wide, lacking lobules; cilia sparse, strongly inflated to globose at base, paler and often developing agglutinated hyphae towards apices, black. Upper surface yellow-green, ±convex, dull, smooth, emaculate, without isidia. Lower surface pale tan; primary rhizines moderately dense, scattered; secondary rhizines developing from primary rhizines or lower surface, dense, richly branched or agglutinated, fine, pale tan. Apothecia common, to 5 mm wide; disc ±flat or shallowly concave, pale brown to cinnamon-brown; thalline exciple ecoronate, retrorsely rhizinate. Ascospores ellipsoidal, 7–9 × 4–5 µm. Pycnidia immersed, punctiform. Conidia weakly bifusiform, 6–8 × 1 µm. CHEMISTRY: cortex K-, UV-; medulla K- or K+ pale brown, C-, KC-, P+ orange-red; containing usnic acid and protocetraric acid. | ||
| Uncommon in Australia; found on bark of mangroves in Qld. It is common in dipterocarp forests in the southern Philippines, West Malaysia, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. | ||
