| Thallus foliose, adnate, to 8 cm wide. Lobes contiguous centrally, separate at periphery, ±imbricate, linear-elongate, dichotomously branched, 1–3 mm wide, elobulate; cilia dense, conspicuous, tapering to markedly inflated, to 1 mm long, black. Upper surface yellow-green to yellow-brown after storage, flat to convex, smooth, emaculate; lobe apices shiny; isidia cylindrical, sparingly branched, rarely becoming coralloid. Lower surface black, with lobe margins black to brown-black; rhizines dense, furcate or dichotomously branched, long, black. Apothecia rare, to 2 mm wide; disc shallowly concave then ±flat, dark brown; thalline exciple ecoronate, isidiate, ±retrorsely rhizinate. Ascospores ellipsoidal, 6–8 × 4–5 µm. Pycnidia punctiform, immersed. Conidia weakly bifusiform, 7–9 × 1 µm. CHEMISTRY: cortex K-, UV-; medulla K+ intense yellow, C-, P+ orange; containing usnic acid, stictic acid (major), constictic acid (minor), norstictic acid (minor), cryptostictic acid (trace) and ±menegazziaic acid (trace). | ||
