| Thallus foliose, tightly adnate, to 2–8 cm wide. Lobes contiguous centrally to ±separate at periphery, imbricate, sublinear, dichotomously to subdichotomously branched, short, 0.5–1.5 mm wide; eciliate or with simple cilia. Upper surface flat to slightly convex, shiny, white-maculate at lobe apices, transversely cracked with age; isidia simple, cylindrical, 0.1–0.5 mm high. Lower surface pale brown; rhizines dense, simple to sparsely branched, becoming dark brown. Apothecia rare, to 2 mm wide; disc ±flat or shallowly concave, cinnamon-brown. Ascospores 6–7 × 4–5 µm. Pycnidia not seen. CHEMISTRY: cortex K-, UV-; medulla K- or K+ pale brown, C-, KC+ pale brown, P+ orange-red; containing usnic acid, ±atranorin and protocetraric acid. | ||
| This scattered species is found on bark, on mangroves and trees in coastal rainforests in the N.T. and north Qld. It is widespread on trunks and canopy branches of trees in lowland rainforests in Africa (Ivory Coast), southern India, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, West Malaysia, Sabah, Sarawak, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. | ||
